Ramakrishna Paramahansa (February 2007)

Continuing with our 2007 topic of “Great Religious Leaders and Philosophers of India”, this month, we will cover teachings of one of influential religious leader of Nineteenth century, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa. He fought against ritualism and superstition that was wide spread and all pervasive in India . As such, all of our religious leaders addressed various aspects of religion, spiritualism and issues of day-to-day life in unique ways. Even though they addressed contemporary issues and communicated the messages most appropriate then, they still hold very true.

Please do your own research on Ramakrishna Paramahansa’s teachings and, if possible, try to relate it with your understanding of religion and Hindu philosophy. I would also suggest you to find and paste one of his pictures in your journal.

Here are some of his life teachings that you can expand on:

  1. God-realisation – the supreme goal of human being
  2. Oneness of existence
  3. Divinity of living beings
  4. Harmony of religions
  5. Primal bondage due to lust and greed
