These simple actions may not seem like a big deal, but they are helping you grow stronger every day. The way our parents talk to us, care for us, and guide us plays a huge role in building important strengths that will help us throughout our lives. Yes, the topic of this month’s hawan assignment is How Our Parents Shape Our Strengths.

Parents influence us in many ways, whether through the way they show love, set rules, or encourage us to try new things. These actions might seem simple, but they can make a big difference in how we develop our own habits and strengths. For this assignment, we want you to reflect on your own experience and think about the qualities you’ve developed thanks to your parents. Let’s go over some examples.

When your parents comfort you when you’re sad or cheer you on when you’re happy, they are giving you something special—emotional support. Knowing that someone is there for you makes you feel safe and confident. This helps you face challenges like making new friends or speaking up in class because you know someone has your back.

Remember the first time your parents let you choose what to wear, or asked you to clean up your toys by yourself? These little moments help you become more independent. By trusting you to handle small tasks, your parents teach you how to solve problems on your own. This is super helpful when you’re working on a tough homework assignment or learning something new.

Parents don’t just tell us how to behave—they show us. When you see your parents being kind, patient, or working hard, you learn from their actions. You start to understand that these qualities are important, and you’ll try to be like them. Whether it’s being patient with a sibling or helping a friend, you are learning to be a good person by watching your parents.
It might seem like rules are just there to stop you from having fun, but they’re actually there to help you grow. When your parents set bedtimes or limit screen time, they’re teaching you discipline and structure. Following rules at home makes it easier to follow rules at school and manage your time wisely. This leads to good habits, like finishing your homework before playing video games.

For this month’s assignment, we want you to

1. take a moment to think about your parents’ everyday actions and habits. Ask yourself questions like:

How do they show support when you’re feeling down or unsure?

What rules or routines do they set that help you stay on track?

How do they encourage you to take on new challenges?

What are some examples of things they do that you admire and want to copy?

2. think about the strengths you’ve built because of the way your parents have interacted with you. These could be qualities like:

Confidence: Do you feel more sure of yourself because they believe in you?

Responsibility: Are you better at managing your time or tasks because they’ve taught you how?

Resilience: Do you keep going when things get tough because they’ve encouraged you to never give up?

Once you’ve thought about these points, write a short reflection about how your parents’ habits and behaviors have helped shape your own character. Idea is not to write big essay but be genuine be with your reflection. Try to focus on specific examples and how they’ve made you stronger. For instance, you can start your assignment with something like…

“My parents always encourage me to try new activities, like joining a sports team or learning an instrument or participating in public debates. Even though I’m sometimes nervous, their support has made me feel more confident in trying new things. Because of them, I’m not afraid to step out of my comfort zone, and I feel proud of myself for being open to challenges …”

I hope you not only enjoy this assignment but also start seeing your parents’ role in your life from a fresh perspective, appreciating their actions, love, guidance, and encouragement . And, next time your parents give you advice, set a rule, or cheer you on, you are able to see how they are helping you grow stronger every day!

As always, I am looking forward to illuminating reflections of our hawan group kids. Make us proud!

Regards,
Harsh Mendiratta

Have you ever wondered why your parents encourage you to try new things, help you with your homework, or set rules for you?
